Under the Glass: News from the Greenhouse

Leah Diehl

Our spring plant sale was a tremendous success and I have to credit that in large part to the outstanding work our many program groups contributed. Each of our therapeutic horticulture groups planted seeds, transplanted seedlings and plugs, watered and fertilized the crops, and made sure they thrived. They also made trellises for the plants that needed them, pinched back the herbs and coleus, and moved plants around the greenhouse to find the best growing conditions. But wait – that’s not all! They also created labels for every plant (and that often involved measuring and cutting old mini blinds), and then helped price each pot. When you consider we had several thousand plants, that’s an impressive job! The groups were supported by our fabulous volunteers and work study students and it was a true team effort. I am fortunate to be part of such an amazing group of people. With our last couple of weeks of programming I think we’ll take it easy, try our hand at some creative activities, and enjoy the glow of success.

For those of you that missed the sale, we still have a few plants left. So come visit the gardens and greenhouse and pick out some plants – I can guarantee you they were grown with love and care.
